At Eleanor Plaza’s produce stand, you’ll find fresh, ripe apricots, plumcots, apples, apple juice, and oranges, that Eleanor grows on her farm in Patterson.

Farming has been a way of life for Eleanor. “I grew up on a farm in Sunnyvale,” she says, “in what we would today call ‘out in the sticks.’ When I married my husband, he also lived on a small farm near the small town of Sunnyvale. After our twin sons and our daughter were born, we moved to Patterson, where our two younger sons were born. My husband, Tony, and I built our home on 85 acres of land we bought in 1964. We planted it all in apricot trees. We started going to Modesto Farmers’ Market in 1975. Then in 1976 or 1977 we started coming to Palo Alto. It was just my husband and myself until my grandchildren were nine years old and wanted to come with us.”

Eleanor likes PAFM because “it’s a small market with very friendly customers that appreciate what you bring for them.” Her favorite memory of the market is of her grandsons: she remembers “when our grandsons Brian and Aaron would come with us and we would have melon in the truck. The boys would toss them to each other to put on the table. It was fun to see them enjoy what they were doing.” They must of learned to enjoy the life from Eleanor, who says “I love what I do.”
